King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match

KOF2002UM was released 2/27/2015 for PC! I myself have put many hours of vanilla kof 2002 in on GGPO, so this is definitely one of my favorite games. However, can I really recommend the steam release of KOF 2002 Unlimited match?

The King of Fighters 2002 “Unlimited Match” sports a whopping 66 playable characters, although a few are clones with different move sets. The cast has diverse move sets and play styles, so you should be able to find characters that fit your style, be that rush-down, turtle, mix-up, or zoning. If you’re not familiar with king of fighters 2002, it uses the 3 vs 3 team format, with some life regen between rounds. It’s a 4 button fighter, some characters dash, and most characters run. There is no air blocking, and your meter can be used in a lot of ways other than supers.

Shin Koihime Musou

Shin Koihime Musou: Otome Taisen Sangokushi

Don’t let the appearances fool you with this one. There is a really solid fighting games here with balance, mechanics, and variety. Shin Koihime Musou has 3 attack buttons and a throw button, but the buttons have a lot of variation depending on which direction you hold or whether you keep the button pressed, so there is a variety of moves for each character in the game.
The combo system is kind of unique for a 2D game, the closest thing I can compare it to is Tekken’s bound system. The light, medium, and heavy attacks don’t chain, and they are not all special cancelable. So a lot of the spacing, footsies, and pressure is from trying to land a “Fatal Counter” which will give your moves some unique properties that let you do some fun big damage combos. Guilty Gear XX #Reload

Guilty Gear XX #Reload is crazy out of date now. But it’s a good download if you have a score to settle with a friend or something. It’s pretty much a port to PC of the original Xbox version, that was then modded & hacked like crazy to support online netplay, and custom palettes(which also work online).

I’m sure a lot of the people who view this site already know all about Guilty Gear, so I won’t go into details about this iteration of Guilty Gear too much. This however, is the game that basically defined “Anime” fighters. Air dashes, bursts, barrier, instant blocks, attack cancels, gatling combo chains, you name it, and Guilty Gear has probably done it at some point in the series.
