Shin Koihime Musou: Otome Taisen Sangokushi

Don’t let the appearances fool you with this one. There is a really solid fighting games here with balance, mechanics, and variety.¬†Shin Koihime Musou has 3 attack buttons and a throw button, but the buttons have a lot of variation depending on which direction you hold or whether you keep the button pressed, so there is a variety of moves for each character in the game.
The combo system is kind of unique for a 2D game, the closest thing I can compare it to is Tekken’s bound system. The light, medium, and heavy attacks don’t chain, and they are not all special cancelable. So a lot of the spacing, footsies, and pressure is from trying to land a “Fatal Counter” which will give your moves some unique properties that let you do some fun big damage combos.
